Morton Valence

Anne Gilpin and Robert 'Hacker' Jessett are two voices that couldn't be less alike, or fit more perfectly.  This vocal pairing forms the nucleus of cult legends Morton Valence, who have been around since the mid 2000s ploughing an idiosyncratic and extraordinary path, both artistically and within the industry.  The band that The Guardian once described as “just about the most intriguing band on these shores”, Morton Valence were always impossible to categorize, and always included an undercurrent of what they called, “Urban Country”.  After seven astonishing and critically acclaimed albums, including last release “Black Angel Drifter” on Cow Pie, their eponymous new album is scheduled for release on 17  November 2022.

BJ Cole

Brian John "BJ" Cole is THE most renown pedal steel guitarist in the UK.  Coming to prominence in the early 1970s with the band Cochise, Cole has played in many styles, ranging from mainstream pop and rock to jazz and eclectic experimental music, but has never forgotten the instrument's roots in country music. Through his varied and extensive session work and long career as a performer, he has come to be regarded as Britain's pre-eminent pedal steel guitarist, also playing lap steel and dobro.

BJ has played with EVERYONE and the list is too long to include here.  He founded Cow Pie records in 1978 and now returns to his roots, releasing his heartfelt take on the traditional Hawaiian sounds that are at the core of country and western music.   Daydream Smile is scheduled for an autumn release.

Ags Connolly

“A national treasure” – Country Music People

A constant presence on the UK, Ireland and European touring and festival circuit, Ags Connolly has built a reputation over the years as an uncompromising country traditionalist. Now having released his third long player, he is considered to be one of the best country singer-songwriters ever to emerge from the UK.  In an era when the pop and rock incarnations of country music are enjoying a surge of popularity, Ags continues to defend the last outpost of the genre’s traditional roots.  Now released on vinyl, Wrong Again, was described by Bob Harris on BBC Radio 2 as “modern day traditionalism of the very, very best kind”. As with his previous two albums, Wrong Again was named Album of the Month by Country Music People magazine while being described by songwriting legend Tom Russell as “killer”.   Billboard and Glide Magazine respectively praised the “deep and emotive vocals” and branded the album “a must listen” for fans of “real deal country music”.  Now hear it on vinyl as it should be experienced.Get your copy of "Wrong Again" on 180g marbled VINYL

Hank Wangford

You cannot discuss country music in the UK without mentioning Hank Wangford.  Singer, songwriter, band leader, television presenter, activist—Hank has been at the centre of country music in the UK and beyond.  With his first releases on Cow Pie in 1980, Hank returns home with his new single “Perfect Day” from his 2020 CD release “HOLEY, HOLEY”.   The journey that began with a chance meeting of Gram Parsons in 1970 and has led Wangford to become, as he puts it on his website the “guilty conscience” and the “dark and troubled grubby soul” of country music. Hank has picked at the miserable underbelly of country music for twenty eight years, inspiring others like Billy Bragg, The The,  The Alabama Three and many others.  Now six years after recording an album of waltzes, Hank returns with the Lost Cowboys Band with completely original material.
